almost there!

the grouphead is back! sergio kept his promise! 8 day turnaround time, wow! it's fairly heavy as you can see. now the reassembly is almost done. the bodywork received a precise fitting. it's really like installing hood and fenders on a car. consistent gap line and so on. it's loosening bolts here, tightening there, wiggling that part, pushing that panel... it takes some time. and don't scratch the fresh paint!

  1. OK - no one on the internet seems to know what order the gaskets etc. go in the grouphead. How much did they charge you to rebuild the head? I'm thinking of sending it there, and then dismantle it once it comes back. It seems this is some kind of trade secret or something.

  2. when i called espresso parts about the gasket for the piston/ cylinder group, they were not very helpful in regards to help me to figure out what is needed. i finally sent the grouphead to deluxe/abc in L.A.; they installed a modified gasket set which they developed and fabricate. just buying the kit it's around $80; but i'm not sure if they modify the brass ring or some other parts. the group head rebuilt was $350.
last month i paid $1800 for the rebuilt of the 3 group heads of my 1954 gaggia esportasione which inluded 1 piston (the last one they head for this model!), all the required hardware and 3 portafilters.
i could have designed and fabricated my own gasket set consisting of modern V-seals. but calculating $30/hr at least at a minimum of 40 hrs of my own time it seemed worthwhile to me to have them doing it instead...

  3. Thanks for response! :) I ended up doing some math and came up with this:

Hopefully I get no leaks - if so it's off to deluxe.
